History

The DATRO Consortium and this WWFM-DSAP Integrator Alliance’s history dates back to a connection with the inventor of Radio himself: Marconi.
Below is the summary of this backstory:

  • 1897 – Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi stays at Great House Farm, Llandough with the Williams family :
    • Farmer John WIlliams accomodates a 21 year old Marconi: Carting him to the local costline each day, to conduct experiments of his radio invention
    • The experiments at Lavernock Point marked the invention of the radio and patents were filed for radio technology. Learn more

  • 1900s – Royal Engineers adopt Marconi’s wireless technology :
    • British Army first train its signallers in wireless communication techniques using Marconi’s equipment

  • 1920s – Royal Signals was officially formed :
    • Responsible for military communications in the British Army
    • The regiment emerged from the Royal Engineers, who previously managed the advanced wireless technology following WW1
    • Royal Signals marked a dedicated focus on communication and information technology within the Army

  • 1940s – World War II :
    • Wireless communications became crucial for military operations
    • Royal Signals played a vital role in coordinating military efforts during the war
    • Post-WWII the proliferation of radio technology expanded into civilian life, impacting broadcasting and telecommunications industries

  • 1960 – The Williams family became the Buckler family :
    • John Williams’ daughter Mary “Nancy” (and her husband Frederick Buckler) inherit Great House Farm

  • 1980s – Sion Buckler:
    • Sion’s born at Great House Farm, Llandough, Cardiff (where Marconi stayed while building and testing radio technology)
      • the great great great grandson of John Williams (who provided Marconi food, shelter and drove him and his equipment, to conduct his experiments)
    • Sion’s dad sold the table (upon which Marconi worked on his radio invention)

  • 1990s/Y2K – Sions natural affinity for technology :
    • Age 11 – Qualifies for a Bursary Grant/ Scholarship to private boarding school: Llandovery College
    • Age 14 – Home/night school diploma in Industrial Electronics
    • Age 15 – ‘clean-room’ designs (and builds) what later became the Pod speaker (by industrial designer Simon Ghahary)
    • Age 16 – Home/night school diploma in Electronic Engineering
    • Age 17 – Works as a Technical Sales Assistant at Maplin Electronics and qualified and started work as an engineer at Panasonic, Cardiff

  • 2002/07 – Sions Career in the Royal Signals :
    • Age 18 – Builds a bar, organises troop functions & island tours (Cyprus). Runs the camps wireless network (and clothes washing/ drying and coke machines)
    • Age 19 – ‘Clean-room’ designs (and builds) phone filter. Rejects a £500 offer from the invention scheme: Gems. Later becames “BT I-Plate” – 10Million+ sold!
    • Age 21 – Serves in Iraq from attachments in Northword (now the UK miltaries cyber defence HQ) and Coresham (now UK polices cyber defence HQ)
    • Age 22 – Honourable discharge from active duty as an acting Sergeant at 14th Signals Electronic Warfare Unit in Wales (after serving a years notice)

  • 2007/12: Sions Private Military Security, Technical Directorship and Tech Entrepreneurship Roles :
    • Co-Founded Smart Home Company: Media Receive (employing many of his former colleagues from his last Electronic Warfare (EW) military posting)

  • 2012+ Sion founded the DATRO Consortium Security Group :
    • Royal Signals community initiative
    • £1Million+ GBP investment into R&D
    • Wisdom and advice from prominent disruptors and industry titans e.g. Dr. Richard Stallman, Sir Michael Moritz etc
    • Collaborations with Cisco, DD-WRT, Google, Alphabet and the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU):
    • Voted for Cisco Innovation Award, joined 147 world leaders at WCIT (Dubai) and received 8 Patents from Google for R&D works
      • one development was an early Private Bitcoin Securities Exchange:
        • Sion was offered a seat on the ‘Board of Advisors’ for a Cryptocurrency Curriculum at Florida Polytech University (age 29)
    • New Company Director appointed: Lady Louguet de Buckler
    • Granted WWFM Integrator Alliance licenced access to R&D resources
  • 2022+ Buckler Family Trust & Estate sets up a family office:
    • Registers with HRMC
    • Sion appointed Settlor and Protector
    • Appointed Trustee (company): DATRO Consortium Ltd

  • 2024 – DATRO launches WWFM-DSAP Integrator Alliance:
    • An integrator alliance focused on pioneering a free, open protocol for a free-to-access internet network
    • Licenced access to critical R&D from British Private Security Group: DATRO Consortium Ltd
